KLASCO to Install an Environmentally Friendly Car Wash

AB Klaipėda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO) plans to install the first specialised car wash in Klaipėda Seaport. The company will thus ensure that only clean vehicles leave the port’s bulk cargo area and enter Klaipėda streets.

The car wash, which should cost around 300,000 euro, will be the first such specialised car wash among Klaipėda port stevedoring companies. The environmentally friendly, closed-type car wash will be equipped with dry and wet cleaning facilities, where used water will be safely returned to the city’s sewage network.

“We decided to build a car wash for the maintenance of equipment working in the territory of KLASCO based on the best practices of other Western European ports. There, such washing facilities are commonplace, resulting in clean vehicles moving in and out of the port. We have applied this experience in Lithuania as well,” says Vytautas Štumbergas, CEO of KLASCO.

The project is currently at the stage of coordination with public authorities. The KLASCO terminal is scheduled to open in October this year.

According to the company’s CEO, the car wash will contribute to other environmental measures implemented by KLASCO, which are provided in its long-term plan. The company has already invested more than one million euro in environmental measures and handling equipment in recent years and will continue to invest in various organisational and technical measures.
