BULK GRAIN TERMINAL

-
The grain terminal was badly needed in the port for handling dry food products, and it has given Lithuanian exporters possibilities to export various kinds of grain along the shortest sea route aboard Panamax-type vessels. The modern engineering object, which occupies an area of 2.4 hectares, was initially intended for handling nitrogen, phosphoric and potassium fertilizers; however, due to market changes it was adapted for handling grain. The warehouses are dome-shaped for optimal use of the limited area of the territory next to the 14-meter quay. The transporters of the terminal can be adapted to transporting dry cargoes of different fractions onto vessels. The quay depth (14 meters) makes it possible to load and service PANAMAX-type vessels.
The terminal was put into operation in July 2002.
