SC Klaipėda Stevedoring Company (KLASCO) is a port enterprise operating at a high technological level.
The Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists granted KLASCO the status of a successful enterprise for its rapid production and technological growth in 2000 and 2005. In 2007, the Lithuanian Logistics Association awarded KLASCO its newly established award for achievements in the area of logistics. Several specialists of the enterprise have been decorated with the Badge of Honour of Sea Transport Worker.
In terms of renewal and business dynamics, the largest stevedoring company in the port of Klaipėda is a recognized business leader. The share of KLASCO in the market of port services makes up more than one third of the total market. Its production efficiency, social responsibility and flexible business make significant influence on the economy and results of the port of Klaipėda.In line with its investment programme, during the first five-year period following the privatization of KLASCO in 1999, the investments into the construction of specialized terminals and warehouses, as well as environmental projects, amounted to more than 150 mln. Lt, whereas over the recent period the allotments to technological improvements and renewal of cargo-handling equipment have amounted to 10–20 mln. Lt annually. In the course of adaptation to ever changing competition conditions, large amounts are allotted to the restructuring of the Company’s operation in line with international ISO standards and the requirements of the ISPS (port safety) Code.
The image of KLASCO as a reliable enterprise that makes profitable investments is the result of continuous improvement of management of its production units and professional work of its staff. Quite a large number of the Company’s personnel are veterans of the merchant port, who have worked there for 20 years or more. Over the recent years, as the production management processes are getting more and more automated and information technologies play an important role in these processes, more young specialists holding higher education certificates are getting involved into management.
According to a cooperation agreement between KLASCO and Klaipėda University, KLASCO finances works related to application of science in production, promotes initiatives in the areas of cargo logistics and maritime business, as well as employs students during their production practice or permanently. Wide career-making prospects motivate the Company’s specialists to learn, improve their qualification and carry out Company’s tasks successfully. The personnel training project funded by the European Social Fund and KLASCO in 2006–2008 involved several hundred persons and helped them improve their skills in the areas of management, the English language, economy and IT system management.
